Town, who saw off division-higher Horsham in the FA Vase first round last time out, made it two straight cup wins with victory at The Shooting Field.

It continued their fantastic run of knocking higher opposition out of silverware competitions, making it five victories over opponents in other divisions this season.

Strikes from Danny Gainsford, Craig Knowles and Rob Clark were enough to see-off the visitors in the second round clash.

Town boss Alan Skipper was delighted with yet another success and said: “We changed our style of play a few games back starting at Rochester in the FA Vase. Since then we have looked more solid and comfortable.

“I have nothing but praise for the lads, their attitudes, commitment and work-rate has been excellent. Hopefully we can draw a big side at home in the next round now.”

Steyning took the lead after a frantic opening seven minutes when Gainsford scored from close range after the visitors were unable to deal with a corner that came about from a smart George Willett save.

Ben Rose at the other end was the busier of the goalkeepers and made a number of stops before half-time.

Hassocks turned up the pressure after the break, but Town held firm and added a second through Knowles with ten minutes left as he intercepted a Willett pass to roll into an empty net.

Hassocks got the goal they had been threatening in the 85th minute as Phil Gault headed home a free-kick, but straight from kick-off, Clark added a third.
