Golds beat Swans to go top

A Michael Hendrick double took Littlehampton Football Club top of County League Division 2 on Tuesday (October 9), when they defeated Storrington 3-0.

In difficult conditions, Golds claimed all three points, despite losing Jason Jarvis to a red card, just before half-time.

The home side started brightly and Hendrick poked wide of the post in the eighth minute.

Hendrick was in the action again, following good work from Jarvis, however, the conditions got the better of him as he slipped and missed the chance.

The home side’s patience paid off in the 38th minute when a corner landed at the feet of Hendrick, whose fine volley hit the crossbar before crossing the line.

David O’Callaghan was then unlucky not to double Golds’ lead when his free kick hit the upright.

Littlehampton’s fine first-half performance was over-shadowed, when Jarvis was sent off in the 44th minute, after he was adjudged to have stamped on a Storrington player.

Golds keeper Jon Hendrick made a smart stop to keep out Tom Pickford’s header, before George Gaskin doubled Littlehampton’s lead in the 54th minute, after neat play between himself and Mitchell Hand.

Hendrick then latched on to Gaskin’s pass to lob home the third on 68 minutes.

Golds boss Mark Bennett said: “In the second half, I felt the 10 men did really well and you wouldn’t have known it was 10 against 11.”
