Two Aaron Woodhams goals, both direct from corners, plus one apiece from Romario Moratalla and Josh Davidson earned the team a fine 4-2 victory.

It was Plumpton who took the lead. They attacked on the break and a shot took a deflection to beat ‘keeper Theo Botevyle.

From that point, Atletico grabbed the nettle and began to dominate possession. Atletico quickly won a corner, and Woodhams scored with a left footed inswinger.

He quickly doubled his tally from the opposite corner where an away swinger found its way into the net with precision that would have baffled any onlooking geometrists.

Atletico were in charge of the game. Henry Dinsdale and Davidson controlled the midfield with Joshua Bellamy proving to be a constant threat on the right wing.

Woodhams turned provider for Moratalla’s goal, a fine strike from the middle of the penalty area as Atletico controlled the game.

After Plumpton pulled a goal back, Davidson grabbed Atletico’s fourth, pouncing after the goalkeeper spilled a Dinsdale strike.

There were plenty more chances for both Moratalla and Davidson, which the keeper was equal to.

Daniel Gardiner worked himself into great positions on two occasions - but was unable to convert.

The second half was goalless but the game continued to entertain. Plumpton pushed for the goal to bring them back into the match although the Atletico defence of Jack Dann, Dan Klamm and Fin Ledingham were equal to everything thrown at them.

As Plumpton pressed, Botevyle pulled off a particularly stunning save. A shot to the keeper’s right took a deflection, which required him to change direction in the air and he pushed the shot away to his left. That incident, in a nutshell, summed up the Atletico performance.

Despite the Plumpton pressure, it was Atletico who looked the more threatening with Moratalla and Bellamy continuing to worry the Plumpton defence and the team held on for a well deserved victory.

Manager Ricardo Moratalla said “Graham Potter doesn’t have to deal with parents evenings restricting player availability, but that was the case for me tonight!

"The players we had available pulled together and performed magnificently. They worked as a team. They supported each other and passed and moved the ball with aplomb.

"I’m delighted that the team earned the victory they deserved.”
