Green delighted as three straight wins take Haywards Heath Town clear at top

Manager Kev Green is delighted with Haywards Heath Town’s SCFL Premier progress, but is not getting carried away by being top.

The Blues have followed their only league defeat – at Crawley Down Gatwick – with wins at home to Roffey (1-0), away to Wick (4-1) and, on Tuesday night, a 2-1 success at home to Pagham.

They trailed 1-0 going into the 90th minute but Sam Remfry and new signing Josh Wright – recruited from Seaford Town – fired them to three points to take them five points clear.

Green said: “The Crawley Down Gatwick game was strange, In the first half we didn't turn up at all, which is unlike us.

"At 2-1 down ar half-time we made four changes, which is rare for me to do. We changed shape and were mich better second half but just couldn't score.

"Then we had a tight game v Roffey and I didn't think we were at our bst in that game either. We weren't terrible, we were just half a second slo on the ball and in the press.

"We were still very comfortable in the game. We created fiveor six good opportunities but only took one. Roffey had a good spell for 20 minutes in the second half where they asked some questions of us and had a few opportunities to score. but Nathan Stroomberg-Clarke in goal was excellent and kept the score at 1-0. I thought we deserved the win.

"Then we went to play Wick on Saturday and were very dominant from start to finish - so we're in good form.

"We're still in all the cups so the schedule is looking pretty hefty overthe next few weeks.

"We've had some good nights in the cups - obviously in the Sussex Senior Cup, beating Brighton was a rreally good evening.

"Injury wise we're in a good place. A month ago we were very thin on the ground with a lot of injuries but we seem to cbe coming out of that and we've got player in form or coming into form.

"We've just signed Jpsh Wright, a striker from Seaford Town. We felt that with Mark Goldson coming back from injury an Tom Chalaye long-term injured, we needed a little more help up front.

"Josh is a good player and a good lad so hopefully he'll come in and score goals for us. He's started the season well and hopefully he can continue that as well."

Heath host Guernsey on Saturday and Hailsham in a cup tie on Tuesday – then it’s off to Rusthall in the FA Vase on Saturday, October 31.
