Hand’s late penalty sends Golds through in FA Vase

Hand converted from the spot in the dying moments after substitute Ben Gray was hauled down as he was about to pull the trigger.

Hand stepped up and kept a cool head to fire Golds through to face Ashford away in the next round and help them pocket £900 with his ninth goal of the season - his seventh from the spot.

Golds started on the back foot and were lucky not to go behind when Jack Pallen fired wide from five yards out.

In the 14th minute, Jon Hendrick made an excellent save from point-blank range to deny the visitors after a mistake from Julian Curnow in the six yard box.

Three minutes later, a moment of magic from George Gaskin set Dan Simmonds free to fire Golds in front.

Liam Humphreys then made a vital tackle in his own area before Hendrick made another save to ensure his side’s lead.

Right on the stroke of half-time, Littlehampton were denied what looked like a certain penalty when Hand’s free kick was deflected off target by the arm of a Corinthian defender.

But 12 minutes into the second half, the visitors deservedly drew level after a turn and shot from the impressive Denzel Gayle.

The rest of the half was a full-hearted cup affair with the Kent Premier League side more than matching Littlehampton.

Just as extra-time loomed, substitute Gray used his pace to full effect to latch onto a through ball. And just as he was about to pull the trigger he was wiped out by the last man for Corinthian, who was lucky not to be sent off, let alone booked.
