Harris: We can surprise people

Tony Harris believes Westfield will surprise a few people this season.

Having flirted with the bottom end of Sussex County Football League Division Two last term, Westfield lie seventh after the opening four weeks of the new campaign.

Westfield joint manager Harris said: “Every game we’re gradually improving; we’re progressing quite nicely. They (the players) have learnt from last year and I think we’re going to surprise a few people.

“I think we’re better than we were last year. We do look a lot more organised and a lot more solid. We’ve got some very good players at our place and I don’t think they get the recognition they deserve.”

After drawing their opening four matches, Westfield picked up their first win at the sixth time of asking with a single goal success at home to Mile Oak last weekend.

Westfield will hope to build on that tomorrow (Saturday) when they make their longest journey of the season to face a Midhurst & Easebourne side which has drawn all of its five fixtures so far.

“We’ve got the win; now we can kick on,” continued Harris. “Midhurst haven’t got that win yet so maybe they’ll be a bit edgy and I think it suits us to play on the counter-attack.

“It’s a tough place to go and it’s a long old journey. They seem to be quite well organised and they’ve got a bit of pace up-front, but I’m pretty confident we’ll be okay.”

David Miller is unavailable for two weeks and Westfield also expect to be without Joe Barham, but Roberto Martellini and Nathan Russell should be fit.
