Hastings hold on for cup win

Hastings United have reached the Ryman League Cup quarter-finals for the second successive season.

The U’s put their FA Cup exploits to one side as they won 3-2 away to Worthing in round four last night (Wednesday).

Premier Division club United took less than three minutes to go in front. Worthing, from Division One South, failed to deal with a Jack Dixon corner and Dee Okojie had plenty of space to score from 15 yards.

The visitors were well on top during the first 20 minutes, but it was after Worthing enjoyed a much better spell that United doubled their lead on the half-hour when Bailo Camara headed in Jono Richardson’s cross.

Bradley Goldberg struck the woodwork and Worthing missed a good chance during the remainder of the first half. After three United substitutions, Worthing pulled one back in the 65th minute.

United goalkeeper Luke Winchester made a couple of fine saves as Worthing got on top before Danny Ellis and Camara combined for Goldberg to make it 3-1 in the 83rd minute with his 12th of the season.

Worthing again got within one as the clock ticked into added time and went desperately close to an equaliser, but United just about held on.

United: Winchester, Cox, Richardson, Vickers (Crellin), Manning, Jirbandey (Carey), Ellis, Dixon (Bachellier), Camara, Okojie, Goldberg. Subs not used: Attwood, Ray.
