Hornets’ goalkeeper Mark Zawadski made a calamitous error which gave away their second goal when he tried to dribble past an opposing striker.

It was the second game in a row the Horsham custodian was in the headlines after he let in a goal scored by opposing goalkeeper Tim Roberts during their 4-0 defeat at Folkestone Invicta.

A video of Saturday’s goal showed he made no effort to track back to try to stop the bouncing clearance and has attracted thousands of hits.

His latest blunder came from dangerously trying to dribble the ball out from his own area. He lost possession and ended up presenting Hythe topscorer Shaun Welford with an easy tap-in with no keeper in sight for his 29th goal of the season.

The goal came early in the 56th minute to make it 2-0, being easily tackled and presented with a gift of a goal and a deficit Horsham never looked likely to recover from.

Horsham went behind five minutes before half-time when a corner was put away from close range by Hythe’s Lee Pleau.

It was Hythe’s sixth win in a row but by contrast was Horsham’s third successive game without scoring.

They were without topscorer Jamie Cade who was unavailable with family commitments.

Junior Kaffo came into the attack partnering Bruno Pacheco up front in what was the only change to the team from Saturday.

There was precious little for the home fans to get excited about. Horsham managed no shots on target throughout the game and were limited mainly to half-chances.

Their best effort actually looked like it was going in, when Ashley Robinson met cross by Pacheco with an overhead kick which flew into the side-netting.

The impressive Welford captained Maidstone Utd to promotion last season and struck narrowly wide in the first half from the edge of the area.

Hythe’s Dan Stubbs had a shot deflected wide by the Horsham defence as they pushed hard for an opening goal just before half-time.

The goal came monents later in the 40th minute when a corner kick was hit into the area and Pleau was not picked up and scored from close-range.

During the second half Horsham’s Robinson blasted over the bar and Pacheco took aim from 30 yards which went well off-target.

After Hythe scored their second goal, they were denied a third by Zawadski who pushed Welford’s shot over the bar.

Horsham were not lacking in effort, just the ability to finish as attempts on goal by Byron Napper, Pacheco, with a header and Ryan Woodford were all wide of the mark.

In the 90th minute Hythe’s Jamie Collado tried an audacious shot of goal from the half-way line, perhaps believing Zawadski would falter again against a long-range attempt in the style of Wayne Rooney or David Beckham.

This time the Hornets stopper tracked back well and caught the ball to make sure there was no further embarrassment at the end of the game.
