Horsham FC were a 'bit toothless' in draw with ten-man Weston-super-Mare

Dominic Di Paola admitted Horsham FC were ‘a bit toothless’ in attack following their 1-1 draw with ten-man Weston-super-Mare – but he was content with another point at home.

Charlie Hester-Cook fired home from close-range to give the Hornets a half-time lead.

Louis Britton levelled four minutes into the second half before Weston's Jason Pope was given his marching orders on 75 minutes after hauling down Horsham’s Ricky Aguiar.

The Hornets are now fifth in the National League South, four points adrift of second-placed Torquay having played a game more, and seven behind leaders Hornchurch.

Di Paola said: “If someone goes down to ten men for 20 minutes, you should go and get the winner – but we were a bit toothless.

“We didn’t really create a lot when they went down to ten men. We forced and rushed it a bit.

“We’ll take a point. Another point is good, but we could have got a little bit more out of it.

“I thought we were good in the first half, they just came into it a bit in the second half, but it’s not too bad, not too bad at all.”

The draw with Weston extended Horsham’s unbeaten run to 15 games in all competitions.

Di Paola was happy with the Hornets’ points haul during a congested November, but felt his side were drawing too many games.

He said: “It’s one of those. We’ve had too many draws but we’ll take the points as we go.

“There’s been quite a few draws in the past six or seven games, so we do need to try to pick up a few more wins.

“But it’s a tough league. We knew that, and you’re probably being a bit greedy expecting more.

“I think we got 13 points from seven in November, which is quite good. We would have taken that all day long at the start of the month.

“We’ve done well, we’ve just got to kill teams off when we’re on top – and we’ve not quite got that bit right yet.

“But in general, I can’t be too critical. We’re in a good position. We’ve got 35 points, and we probably need another 16, 17 to guarantee safety.

“If we can keep knocking off those games, we’ll be in a good place.”
