Horsham YMCA manager hails his ‘pack of wolves’

YM were comfortable 2-1 winners after Ashley Dugdale’s half volley in the second period proved the winner after Elliott Romain’s sixth minute strike wqas cancelled out by Morgan Stedman. Buckland’s side will now face St Francis Rangers in the quarter finals.

Buckland said: “I think 5-1 would have been a more appropriate scoreline.

“I can live with missed opportunities, but I can’t live with naivety. We were working like a pack of wolves to win the ball tonight, but then when we did win it back, we all too quickly gave it away again. That made it hard for us.

“If you keep possession of the ball, the other team can’t hurt you. Quite often we’re looking to go too long, too soon. I’m certainly not opposed to a long ball, because I think a good, measured ball in behind can kill teams, especially with the likes of Elliott [Romain] or Martin [Smith] to get onto, but we seem to be doing it too often, rather than playing our way up the pitch.

“However, I still feel that we’re moving in the right direction. If we can continue like tonight and up our performance by another ten per cent, then I definitely think we can beat Shoreham on Saturday.”
