Lancing FC will be back in action this weekend – after making national headlines because they were part of football’s international break.

Normally it is only Premier League and Championship sides who can call off games because players are away playing for their countries, but Lancing – who play at the fourth tier of non-league – joined them last weekend.

It’s because Lancers Knory Scott and Luke Robinson have both been in the Bermudan squad playing two Concacaf Nations League games against Dominica.

In addition Sam Bull and Charlie Gibson helped England’s six-a-side team reach the quarter-finals of the WMF U23 six-a-side World Cup in Croatia.

Lancing’s brush with international football has been picked by the BBC and various other national media outlets.

Chairman Barry Sutton was also on TalkSport and said: “It was all a bit surreal. I had to ask my boss for a bit of time off to do a national radio interview which was a first for both of us!”

Sutton added: “I hope this attention results in a few people coming to Culver Road on Saturday when we play Isthmian south east leaders Beckenham, to see what the fuss is all about.”

Bermuda won 6-1 in their first game against Dominica, with Scott scoring the fifth. It was 3-2 to Bermuda in Tuesday’s second game. Both players appeared in both.

Lancing thanked the Isthmian League for allowing them to call off last Sunday’s visit to Three Bridges. A new date will be set soon.
