Steve Mounie will serve a three-game ban after Huddersfield were unsuccessful in their appeal against the striker's red card in Saturday's match with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Mounie was sent off by referee Michael Oliver in the 32nd minute for a studs-up challenge on Yves Bissouma.

Terriers boss David Wagner was furious with the decision afterwards as his side led 1-0 at the time but went on to lose 2-1.

In a statement on their club website, Huddersfield wrote: "Huddersfield Town's appeal against the red card shown to striker Steve Mounié in the game against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday 1 December 2018 has been unsuccessful.

"Town’s Benin international was shown a straight red card in the 32nd minute by referee Michael Oliver for a challenge on Yves Bissouma in the 2-1 defeat at the John Smith’s Stadium.

"After Town submitted the appeal on Monday, the Regulatory Commission informed the Club that the appeal had been unsuccessful, meaning Steve will now serve a three match suspension.

"This rules the striker out of the upcoming Premier League games against AFC Bournemouth (A) on 4 December, Arsenal (A) on 8 December and Newcastle United (H) on 15 December. "
