Albion's topscorer came on ten minutes into the first-half of extra-time and needed just three minutes to score to put Brighton ahead.

Murray then sealed the victory with three minutes of the second-half of extra time to go to secure a home tie with Championship-outfit Derby County on February 16.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Hughton felt 'it was going to be one of those days' after West Brom went a goal up through Kyle Bartley's bizarre goal but left delighted by the impact of substitute Murray.

He said: "(I'm) delighted, it's a cup tie, and we made hard work of it. We got into good positions but found ourselves 1-0 down and it felt like it was going to be one of those days.

"You need a goal to get back in it and then the tie turned a bit and we showed our quality. I knew we would push right to the end but we had had ample opportunities before that.

"Glenn Murray came on and wanted to make an impact in the game and that's what happens. He certainly came on with a spring in his step.

"What we need to do as a team is spread the goals around a bit more but if you said would I rather have someone in form scoring goals then of course I would.

"We'll have to show more against Derby."
