Hunston derail rivals to lift Shuker Cup

Hunston Community Club beat BR Railway Club 2-1 in the Chichester & West Sussex League Shuker Cup final at Arundel to win the trophy for the first time since 1990.

The Railway Club enjoyed the majority of pocession in the opening exchanges but Hunston keeper Craig Hillier confindently dealt with chances created.

Against the run of play Hunston’s Matt Walker broke from central midfield and stroked the ball into the bottom corner to open the scoring after 12 minutes.

The remainder of the half was more even but the Railway Club equalised to end the half on level terms.

Hunston CC started the second half strongly and were rewarded when centre-forward Ryan Robinson stabbed the ball into the net following persistant pressure.

The Hares tried to take the sting out of the game and retain possesion with cultured passing.

The Railway Club came closest to forcing extra-time, forcing a good save from Hillier in the Hunston goal and a headed clearance from joint player-manager Dan Steele.

Captain Shaun Yazdanpanah greatfully accepted the trophy from the league officials pitchside after the match.

Hunston’s MoM was centre-back Keiron Gilbert.
