'I didn't get involved in any of what was being said' - Crawley Town boss on his touchline behaviour against Colchester United

Scott Lindsey is a manager that doesn’t hide his feelings at times on the touchline – but against Colchester United on Boxing Day, fans might have spotted he was more restrained than usual.

Yes, the Reds boss showed his frustration at some decisions, certainly in the latter part of the game, but when he was definitely less animated than usual – and it was deliberate.

Before the game he said he enjoyed facing off against Colchester boss Danny Cowley and his brother Nicky and said they are always ‘feisty affairs’.

And Danny was particularly vocal on Boxing Day as decisions went against his side. But Lindsey said: “I didn't get involved in any of what was being said or anything.

“I've been there before. My experience now, I used to be very naive a long time ago and get involved in arguments with him and Nicky. We've had some feisty affairs over the years.

“I just told my staff today I needed to really focus on the game and the team and not get involved in any of that, which Smudger [Neil Smith] did it quite well and buffered me. But no, listen, I've always enjoyed coming up against them too. To be fair, I've not done really well against them normally.”

But Lindsey added: “It's part of the game, isn't it? To have that kind of battle against another opposition. I think it's good for the game. I enjoyed it today.

“I thought we played well. I thought we were good for our money today.”
