In pictures: Newhaven ladies claim league win over Sutton

They flew out of the blocks in Sunday’s game, with Hannah Williams running riot out wide. It was not all Newhaven’s way and Sutton had keeper Harriet Kwok working hard, pushing a low shot wide.

Moments later she made a block which was followed by a good save when a curling shot came in. This proved Sutton’s best period of the game.

The first goal came when Newhaven won the ball on halfway and Williams went on a run towards the byline and crossed low and hard to the onrushing Emilia Rahaus, who slotted it home.

Sutton were only behind for five minutes before a slight mix-up at the back led to their equaliser.

Newhaven got a second 10 minutes into the second half when Leah Bishop chipped the Sutton keeper from outside the box.

It could have been 3-1 but Williams rolled a chance past the post, so the final score was 2-1 – with Williams picking up Player of the Match award.

On Wednesday night it ended 1-1 when Eastbourne Borough visited.
