The U’s have scored just once in their last five Ryman Football League Division One South matches and haven’t netted on their travels since January.

Kane said: “We do need to bring in another forward and we’re hoping to have a forward player signed by Saturday.

“I’ve been trying to sign somebody from a higher level and I’ve also spoken to a few Conference South clubs, but trying to attract players at this stage of the season, especially from a higher level, is not easy given the league position.”

Kane says he has one other transfer target ahead of the deadline at the end of the month.

“Apart from this one, just one more,” he continued. “I’m happy with what I’ve got provided I can get them all fit and available for selection.”

The U’s have picked up just three points from their last nine games and only goal difference is keeping them above the Ryman Football League Division One South relegation zone.

There are three relegation places (although generally in recent seasons at least one club has earned a reprieve) and fifth-from-bottom United are just one point above second-from-bottom Redhill.
