Kane targets home improvement

New Hastings United Football Club manager Nigel Kane is determined to give The Pilot Field faithful something to cheer.

Although United have won more away games than anyone outside the top nine in Ryman Football League Division One South, no team in the division has won fewer home matches.

East Grinstead Town will provide the opposition in Kane’s first home fixture since taking charge today (Saturday). Kick-off at The Pilot Field is 3pm.

Speaking to United’s programme co-editor Liam Willis, Kane said: “We’ve performed better away from home all season. We’ve only won two games at home and we’ve got to address that as soon as possible, starting on Saturday against East Grinstead.

“It’s fine margins. We’ve lost games that we should’ve drawn and we’ve drawn games we definitely should’ve won. We’ve got to change those fine margins so they start going in our favour.”

Although United were 3-1 winners in October’s reverse fixture, 19th-placed Grinstead are in much better form now than they were then having won their last three and four of their last five league encounters.

Kane is hoping the 2-1 win away to bottom club Horsham on Wednesday night - when Evan Archibald scored an added time winner - will inject a bit of confidence into United’s squad.
