The Golds drew 3-3 with Newhaven at the Sportsfield, having trailed 2-0 and 3-1, which was enough to see them lift the title after second-placed Dorking Wanderers fell to a 2-1 defeat at Arundel.

Landais said: “This squad has an unbelievable amount of character and we deserved to come through in the end.

“After we went 2-0 and 3-1 down, I felt that we may have lost our opportunity.

“But full credit to all of the boys, nobody’s head dropped and we managed to get it back to 3-3 in the end and went on to win the league.”

His team’s triumph is not the only success for Landais as his goal nine minutes from time ensured he ended up joint top goalscorer in the league.

He and Tom Tolfrey ended the campaign tied on 30 league goals and Landais netted 40 in all competitions.

He said: “I set myself a target of 20 goals at the start of the season and, fortunately, I’ve managed to beat that.

“To get another ten goals on top of that target is a great achievement for me personally. I’ve managed to get the golden boot and win the league in the same year and it’s a great feeling”
