Langney Wanderers confirmed their resignation from the division last week, citing financial issues.
Uckfield joint managers Steve Ives and Graeme Mintrim were full of praise for Eastbourne-based Langney as the club received a host of support from countless clubs and individuals.
Mintrim reflected on the impressive progress made by the club over the years. “I’m gutted about Langney Wanderers. I consider Tracey and Tibbs as good friends and I’ve seen what they’ve given to not only the club, but to the local football community.
“This decision will have been agonising for them but I think they deserve the utmost credit for doing and achieving something a lot of people only talk about. Ten years from Sunday League to the County premier league. Let it sink in what an achievement that is.”
Ives was also very complimentary of the work put in by those at Langney - but suggested other clubs at their level could struggle.
“I’m sure it was a tough decision for them which they have hinted was driven by the costs of running the club. It’s impossible for me to know the financial health of clubs in the league but it must surely serve as a warning to all of us,” Ives added.
“Playing behind closed doors with hospitality restrictions must put a strain on all clubs, I can only hope there is now light at the end of the tunnel.”
