Large turnout expected for Ken's funeral

A large turnout is expected for the funeral of Little Common Football Club chairman and founder Ken Cherry.

The service will take place today (Tuesday) at Eastbourne Crematorium from 12.15pm and will be followed by a gathering at Highwoods Golf Club in Bexhill. All are welcome to attend.

Family flowers only please. Donations, payable to Little Common Football Club, may be sent c/o Mummery Funeral Directors, Bexhill.

“I would imagine there will be lots of people there wishing to pay their respects and also celebrate Ken’s life,” said Common player-manager and Ken’s grandson Russell Eldridge.

“It’s going to be a very emotional day and a tough day for the family, and anyone who Ken’s had an impact on, which is going to be a lot of people. Hopefully we’ll be able to send him off in a nice way.”

Ken set up the club in 1966 and was the driving force behind its rise over the subsequent years, managing adult and youth teams, as well as carrying out all manner of important off-the-field jobs. He died suddenly last month aged 81.
