Late drop-outs anger boss

Westfield Football Club manager Jethro Warren was frustrated by late withdrawals after last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at home to Haywards Heath Town.

Warren said that three key players dropped out after 10.30am on the day of the game, leaving him with just two substitutes, one of whom was his right hand man Mark Drinkwater.

“If you’re going to drop out, you drop out with enough time so we can get some players from the reserves,” Warren said. “You could see in the warm-up we were lethargic, we were flat. Heads were down, you could see that from the off.”

The result has dropped Westfield back into Macron Store Sussex County Football League Division Two’s bottom four ahead of the visit from third-placed AFC Uckfield Town on Saturday. Kick-off at The Parish Field is 2pm.

“It’s the same old story, we’ll have an abundance of players on Saturday,” continued Warren, who says he’d rather be on the sidelines but has little choice but to play at present. “Everyone wants to play against the better teams. It’s massively frustrating.

“It’s going to be a tough one, but against the better sides this year we’ve tended to turn up and perform. I’ll go into the game confident we can get something out of it provided everyone turns up.”
