Alan Nelmes was a regular for Brentford in the 1970s, playing 350 times in defence, and was one of five select former players inducted into the club’s hall of fame at a special occasion held at the Hurlingham Club in Chelsea also attended by FA chairman Greg Dyke and TV personality Bradley Walsh.

After his retirement from football, Nelmes settled in Middleton with his wife Norma and sons Martin and Stuart, but keeps in close contact with the club.

He was honoured in front of over 1,000 guests who attended the dinner to mark Brentford’s 125th year.
