Lewes announce first signing of Tony Russell era
Lewes have confirmed the first new signing under new manager Tony Russell's regime.
The Rooks have snapped up Cray Wanderers forward Joe Taylor on a one-year deal.
New Lewes manager Russell has managed Taylor over the past three seasons while in charge of the Wands
Taylor was the Isthmian Premier Division's top scorer in 2019-20, netting 26 goals before the campaign was abandoned.
The prolific forward was also joint-top goalscorer in last season's curtailed Isthmian Premier season with seven goals.
Speaking to lewesfc.com, Taylor said: "I'm really happy to sign for Lewes and the challenge is one that excites me.
"The ambition of the club is impressive and I can't wait to get back to doing what I do best.
"I'm sensing special times for the club and fans ahead."
Russell added: "I'm over the moon to get JT over the line, he is a proven goal scorer and an all round top player.
"We have a great relationship so I was so keen to work with him again.
"JT is a brilliant man on and off the pitch and someone I know the Lewes fans will really love having him at The Dripping Pan"
Lewes FC Chair Stuart Fuller said: "I've watched Cray Wanderers a lot over the last few seasons and there is no doubt Joe is a fantastic player.
"Tony and I had to be quick in securing Joe as there was unsurprisingly a lot of interest from clubs at Steps 2 and 3."
And fellow Rooks director John Peel added: "Joe is somebody we’ve tracked for a long time so when the opportunity arose to obtain his signature, we pulled out all the stops.
Joe is a versatile number nine whose goalscoring record speaks for itself and somebody who I’m sure will be adored by our supporters”
