Lewes boss: We've not cracked anything yet

Lewes boss Hugo Langton says the Rooks enjoyed chalking up their first league win of the season – but insists there’s nothing to celebrate yet.

A second-half Luke Blewden goal saw off Margate at The Dripping Pan last Saturday for Langton’s men’s maiden Isthmian premier win of the campaign.

But he said one win meant nothing – and the focus of the squad and management was firmly on building on it. The victory lifted Lewes off the bottom, and further success at Potters Bar tomorrow and at home to Merstham next Tuesday could carry them into mid-table.

Langton felt the first league victory, in their sixth outing, had been coming.

He told the Express: “In most games we’ve been good but it’s nice for the players to get the reward of the three points.

“We defended very well and created some very good chances and it was nice to see one go in.

“We’ve now taken four points off two good sides but that doesn’t mean we’ve cracked it. We won’t be thinking like that. We’ve cracked nothing. It’s a nice platform to build on and keep taking points, but the important thing is not to let the bar drop.”

Langton said the mood in the dressing room had remained upbeat even during the difficult start to the season.

“The players could see they were not far off, but it was nice to go into the dressing room at 5pm on Saturday and see everyone smiling.

“We’re not one of these teams who turn the dressing room into a nightclub when we win, but we still enjoyed the result. We prefer to go home, reflect and think about the next game.”

Langton said the present fixture schedule was ‘relentless’ and he was not surprised to see many teams picking up more significant injuries than normal after the long period without games.

Happily, the Rooks’ treatment room is relatively empty and Langton has most of his troops available for the weekend.

The manager has also been unsurprised at the dog-eat-dog nature of

the division so far, with many teams inconsistent. He added: “The exception are Worthing. The one thing I know is that they’ll be strong and consistent.

For everyone in the league, it’s all very frantic at the moment.”
