Lewes FC reward young #HomeHeroes

They have launched a scheme called HomeHeroes which they say is a way for the club to use its place in the community to help children in particular through this difficult and strange time.

Director Charlie Dobres said: “So many people are doing incredible things in Lewes and the surrounding area. That goes for everyone working in the NHS and social care sector, education, the emergency services, local government, shop workers and beyond.

“And we’ve seen the emergence of the incredible Lewes Coronavirus Volunteers group.

“Beyond these examples though, there are the everyday kindnesses that we never see and perhaps among the most precious are the acts of children, locked down in their homes, no contact with their friends, but showing all of us the way by doing whatever they can to help parents and siblings around the house.

“During the football season, the club recognises the special place of children by letting all under-16s into matches for free.

“Obviously we can’t do that at the moment, so we created HomeHeroes to say a big thank you to children who are being extra helpful at home.

“All you have to do is email us at [email protected] telling us who you’d like to nominate and why (plus your postal address). We’ll put a thank you card and special pen in the post the same day!”

One of the first to take part was Russell Spink, whose six-year-old daughter Anya, a big support of Lewes Women, was delighted to receive Rooks goodies in the post.

Russell tweeted to say: “Thank you @LewesFC for making my little monkey a very happy #HomeHero.”

Anya is a pupil at Southover Primary in Lewes and her dad added: “She’s a big fan of Lewes Women and can’t wait to get back to the Dripping Pan to see them in action.”
