Golds take on Loxwood in the semi-finals on Wednesday at Worthing United’s Lyons Farm ground, with last year’s 5-1 final drubbing at the hands of local rivals East Preston still on their minds.

Bennett admits that last season they lost to the better side but has told his players they have a chance to avenge their below-par display.

He said: “Last year, unfortunately, we were playing EP in the final and a lot of the players just froze.

“I have reminded them about it and, hopefully, it will inspire the team to get to the final, so we can get there and put last year right.

“Like last year, if you lose against a better team you don’t mind losing, but the trouble was there was around 500 people watching and the players froze and we want to put that right.”

Bennett knows his side will need a decent display to beat a strong Loxwood side to secure a final spot and said: “It’s one of those games as they are not a bad side.

“If we play to how we can, we should win, but, if we do not, it will be a very close game.”

The Golds boss also stressed, however, that the league remains their top priority this season.

Littlehampton’s Michael Asare and Scott Packer are both cup-tied for the match which kicks off at 7.30pm.
