Loxwood chairman praises club's performance in Supplementary Shield final loss

Luke Brodie put the Magpies ahead in the first half before Will Berry levelled on the hour. Neither side could find a winner in 90 minutes so the game went to penalties.

Keeper Mitch Bromage was the hero for the Lancers, saving from Jack Frankland then stepping up to bury his spot-kick, as Lancing won the shootout 5-4.

Lacey said: “I have to say how proud I am of every player. On Saturday they did themselves and the club proud and I could ask no more of them.

“They matched the best team over two seasons in every department.

“It’s a shame to lose on penalties but that is always a lottery. I was disappointed for all the Loxwood fans that were at game and my son who was upset at end of game too.

“But I’d like to congratulate Lancing on their win, and their promotion too,

“We have a great togetherness within the squad. They play for each other and they are enjoying their football.

“They give 110 per cent every time, and I am looking forward to the forthcoming season.”

A loose pass from Berry enabled Brodie to draw Bromage off his line and tuck home on 22 minutes.

Lancing equalised on 60 minutes when Berry headed home a Mo Juwara cross. With the scores level at the end, the game went to penalties.

Magpies skipper Lewis Westlake was up first but blazed over. Darius Goldsmith fired home and so did Loxwood’s Josh Bradley.

Lancing’s next two failed with Liam Hendy’s being well saved by Fraser Trigwell and Berry’s fierce drive striking the cross bar.

Tad Bromage put Loxwood 2-1 up before Matt Penfold’s spot-kick was well saved by Mitch Bromage.

Ebou Jallow brought Lancing level, followed by successful kicks by Jordan Warren and Juwara.

Loxwood’s Mark Goodson and Lancing’s Josh Gould put their penalties away in sudden death.

Bromage then pulled off a superb save with his outstretched leg to deny Frankland and then stepped up to score and hand the Shield to Lancing.
