Mackail-Smith off to Leeds, says Sky Sports

Sky Sports is reporting that Brighton are close to agreeing a deal to sell record signing Craig Mackail-Smith to Leeds United.

According the channel’s breaking news service, Elland Road boss Neil Warnock has made the Scottish hitman his number one transfer target and Gus Poyet is willing to do business with the Yorkshire outfit.

Mackail-Smith cost Brighton a minimum fee of £2.5million when he signed last summer but scored just 10 goals. Reports suggest Leeds’ Ross McCormack could move south as part of the deal.

Poyet has made no secret of his desire to recruit a target man but, with Will Hoskins breaking his foot and out for six weeks, he will be reluctant to sanction any sale until a replacement is found.

Mackail-Smith was linked with a move to Reading last season and turned down the chance to play for Team GB at London 2012.
