Mark Hughes hits out at decision for Brighton's late penalty

Southampton boss Mark Hughes criticised the decision by referee Anthony Taylor to award Brighton a late penalty last night.

Glenn Murray scored in the final minute from the spot to secure a point for Albion, after they had trailed 2-0 at St Mary's in the Premier League clash.

Goals from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Danny Ings had put Saints in control, before Shane Duffy headed home Anthony Knockaert's free kick and then Duffy was fouled by James Ward-Prowse late on, which resulted in Murray making it 2-2.

Hughes said afterwards: "We're disappointed with the award of the penalty.

"I don't think there was too much contact and I think the guy has thrown himself to the floor.

"The referee has deemed that worthy of a penalty.

"Clearly they were going to throw balls into our box and hope something broke for them.

"Credit to them. They had a real go in the second half and they had to. They had nothing to lose and were taking chances and they got their reward."
