Masters leaves ahead of League Cup trip

Hastings United will return to action tonight (Tuesday) with a Ryman League Cup third round tie away to Horsham.

The U’s, who were fixtureless at the weekend following their early exit from the FA Trophy, will be eager to restore some form and confidence against their Premier Division rivals.

United are 11th in the league with 17 points from 13 games, but have won just two of their last 12 matches in all competitions (including the penalty shoot-out victory over Whitehawk in the previous round).

Sean Ray may well play some part for United as he recovers from an ankle ligament injury against a Horsham side which props up the table with eight points from 11 league outings.

In other United news, budget cuts have meant that coach Mike Rutherford and goalkeeper Clark Masters have left the club.

Elsewhere tonight, Sussex County League Division One high-flyers Rye United will travel to Division Two side Oakwood in round two of the Sussex RUR Charity Cup.

Rye manager Scott Price is likely to cast his eye over a few players from the reserves, as well as giving a run-out to Danny Ellis on his return from injury.

Return here tomorrow morning to find out the results.
