Mullets are all but safe with Chi win

ARUNDEL Football Club manager Simon Butler was full of praise for his side after they all but sealed their survival in County League Division 1 on Easter Monday.

Mullets’ 3-1 win at home to Chichester means they need just a point from their final three games to be mathematically safe. However, their superior goal difference over third-from-bottom Selsey, who have one game to play and trail Arundel by three points, means Mullets will finish outside of the bottom three.

Butler said: “I can’t believe that, after everything we’ve been through this season, we have the chance of finishing higher than what we did last year.

“We’ve got to still go up two places, so will have to win our last three and hope results go our way, but I’ve got nothing but admiration for all the players.

“We’ve managed to get our first team, reserve team and under-18 team out for every game and, hand on heart, not one player has had a penny.

“Full credit to all of them, they love playing for the club. We’ve got some good youngsters coming through and the under-18s will start to filter into the reserve team in the next few months.”

Mullets had lost 3-0 at home to Crowborough on Saturday.
