Norris bemoans '˜special' Schmeichel

Pompey were held to a 1-1 draw by Leicester on Saturday after David Nugent netted a 74th-minute equaliser.

That cancelled out Norris’ deflected 68th-minute opener – his fourth goal of the season.

But Appleton’s men would have been toasting three points had it not been for the outstanding Schmeichel.

The former Leeds man produced a superb save in the 75th minute to somehow keep out Hayden Mullins’ powerful drive.

But his earlier stop from Dave Kitson eclipsed even that.

Norris crossed from the left in the 46th minute and the unmarked Kitson planted a header goalwards.

Half of Fratton were cheering when Schmeichel conjured up an instinctive point-blank stop to divert the ball around the post for a corner.

And like all those present inside Fratton Park, Pompey’s skipper was left stunned at what he witnessed.

Norris said: ‘It was unbelievable. I said to Kasper at the end that it was just like his old man (Peter Schmeichel).

‘What an incredible save, he just chucked himself at it and got the slightest of touches to push it wide.

‘I haven’t seen many saves as good as that in my career. That was special to be fair.

‘I don’t think Kits did anything wrong either. He has put it back across goal and it’s going in.

‘Then the keeper produces something like that. It was unbelievable.’
