Now it’s seven wins in a row for Chichester City

City were awarded a penalty after just seven minutes when Jimmy Wild struck a low shot which a defender stopped with his arm. Wild stepped up and coolly sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.

Chichester nearly had their second when Josh Clack wriggled through and got a low shot away, but the keeper produced a good save down to his right.

However, the constant pressure finally became too much for Hailsham and City got their second when Dan Watts let fly from long distance. The keeper misjudged it on the wet surface, letting it go straight through him and into the net.

A couple of minutes later, Graham Bush tapped in from a perfectly-weighted cross by Clack, giving Chichester a very comfortable half-time lead.

Alex Ansa showed good strength to get the ball in the box and find Watts, whose close-range effort was ruled out for offside.

Soon Chichester did manage their fourth as the ball was inadvertently turned into his own net by Daubeney.

Clack rounded off the scoring when he showed great skill in the box to cut the ball on to his left foot and curl it past the keeper.

The win puts Chichester sixth and City boss Miles Rutherford: “I am happy with the way things are going with seven wins on the trot, but it is up to us to keep it going.

“The problem is we have played sides who have not been at full strength. They are sides I expect us to beat. The 3-0 win over Horsham YMCA may have made us look more dominant than we actually were, but we still deserved the win as we were better of the two sides.

“Everyone is happy with where we are but we can’t rest there. It has not been as good as it looks and the players know that changes will be made if they don’t keep up this level of performance, as they have now set this standard.”

Chichester visit Arundel on Saturday, their final game before Christmas.
