Oakmeeds football reports

OAKMEEDS V DOROTHY STRINGER (COUNTY CUP MATCH, Year 8)

On Monday September 23 the Oakmeeds Year 8 football team travelled to Brighton to play Dorothy Stringer, a Secondary School well-known for its sporting prowess.

Unfortunately, as Mr Butcher so aptly put it, the boys were not awake in the first half. After conceding a brace of goals in the first 10 minutes, the boys’ heads dropped and the first half went downhill from there. But at least there was some consolation with a great solo effort from Ryan Jackson that lifted team spirits and meant they turned around 7-1 down at the interval.

After an inspirational team talk at half-time, Oakmeeds came back rejuvenated and ready to do battle. The boys played with style and skill, managing to score two goals and only conceding two more in this half. Both goals came from Louis Wood to leave the final score 9-3.

Oakmeeds were a better team in the second-half and were resilient right to the final whistle. Brilliant performances came from Dan Bonnet and Ryan Jackson but it was Wood who earned the Man of the Match award.

Team: Jack Cooper (Captain), Tom Cooper, Josh Hall, Ryan Jackson, Louis Wood, Harvey Ransome, Dan Bonnet, Jake Dale, Lee Smith, Ollie Bradford, Ollie Read, Jack Woodford, Riley Wood (injured).

OAKMEEDS Year 8 V ST PAULS CATHOLIC COLLEGE

Wanting to redeem themselves after the cup defeat on Monday, the Oakmeeds boys went into this match three days later determined and focused from the off.

The opening goal from Kameron Carey gave them an early lead but St Paul’s managed to claw it back from a goalmouth scramble.

However, the scores were not level for long Carey once again found the back of the net with a great finish to give Oakmeeds a narrow 2-1 lead at the end of a closely fought first half,

The second half began with the Oakmeeds players well aware that a one goal lead was too close for comfort and after a few early chances from St Paul’s, all saved well by Jack Woodford, Carey offered some breathing space by completing his hat-trick with another cool finish.

After this the floodgates opened and Oakmeeds scored three more great goals: Louis Wood scored a classy brace and Lee Smith ended a well worked move with an unlikely goal!
