‘One hell of a journey’ – skipper Colbran tells of pride at Worthing FC's title and promotion

You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone in the squad who’s done more to make their rise to the top tier of English non-football than full-back Colbran.

He has played in 43 games this season and scored nine goals getting up from the back.

But his work for the Worthing cause goes far back past this title-winning season. He has been at the club around a decade and has amassed well over 300 apperances, being part of the club’s rise from the Isthmian South East and Isthmian Premier to the top of National South.

After Saturday’s win against Ebbsfleet, which sealed the title and promotion to the National Pemier in front of a new record crowd of 4,002, he spoke of his joy at promotion and his pride at what the team had achieved.

Colbran told the BBC: “It’s been one hell of a journey right through the years. To be in the play-offs three years in a row and now to get over the line, for the fans, the players, I’m so proud of everyone. We’ve finally done it.

"I’m so happy for George (Dowell, the club’s owner). He’s put the time and effort in – all the board and everyone behind the scenes have put in so much time and effort ino the club. it’s their lives. And I’m so happy to have got over the line and finally got this promotion for such a great club and great people."

Colbran said he couldn’t wait to test his ability in the National League Premier next season and added: “It’s been one of my dreams to get promoted with Worthing. To finally get the job done and be in that league next season, I can’t wait.

"I’m so happy for the fans and everyone.”

Colbran is one of the Rebels players already under contract until the end of next season.
