Golds, who were without eight first-team regulars, had won two of their three previous league matches but defeat to Dockers was a second in just four days.

Littlehampton boss Ady Baker felt it was a bad day at the office for his team and said: “We had players out through injury, away on holiday and unavailable. Newhaven are quite a direct side and we went to them with players playing out of position.

“We were only 1-0 down at half-time but I think in the end players just lost a little bit of focus having to play in different positions.”

Golds looked fairly comfortable early on but Ryan Walton’s strike broke the deadlock eight minutes before the break.

Dockers doubled their lead on the hour from the penalty spot after Callum Slade hauled down a Newhaven forward. Scott Taylor slammed home the penalty and then the floodgates opened.

Lee Robinson made it three seven minutes later, before Taylor struck once again to round off a period of three goals in ten minutes.

There was still time for Sebastien Saunders, Ebou Jallow and Ryan Walton to net as the scoreline had extra gloss.
