Catlin said: ‘We have not received any fine yet but will get one, 100 per cent.

‘The rules are not just specific to the Tuesday night game or games leading up to it, you have an option to field the team the week after, so until after the Accrington game a fine couldn’t be issued.

‘There is a standard fine – a maximum of £5,000 – and that is the figure we expect to receive.

‘It wasn’t just us who made so many changes, there were a few clubs who will be getting punished as well.

‘In fairness, it is not as if we were one player out and had to make a change because of an injury.

‘At the end of the day we knew the rules, we knew what the punishment was and you have got to take it.’

Pompey fielded a side containing three players over the age of 20 – Paul Jones, Adam McGurk and Adam Barton.
