Postponement denies Pompey cash boost

The Blues have been denied a Sky payment in excess of £10,000 after today’s clash fell foul of the weather.

But chief executive Mark Catlin felt the Dons did their best to manage a tricky situation over calling the game off.

And he praised the south London outfit for ensuring an open dialogue as a decision was made.

Storm Katie left the Kingsmeadow surface waterlogged after heavy wind and rain battered the south on Sunday night.

Referee Andy Madley then gave his verdict and postponed the game after a 9.15am pitch inspection.

Sky distribute payment for TV fixtures, with the majority of that payment allocated to the home side.

But the Blues would still have received a cash fillip for the match being screened.

There is no news on when the game will be rescheduled at present, although Football League rules suggest fixtures must be reorganised for the earliest possible opportunity.

Catlin said: ‘I spoke to the Wimbledon chief exec at 8.30am and he said there was a pitch inspection.

‘We were then able to get that out quite promptly on social media and the website to let people know.

‘It was quite prompt and that’s what you want because it allows people to make their own decisions on whether to travel.

‘But you also want to give the game as much of a chance as possible to go ahead.

‘Sometimes I think decisions are made too early.

‘It’s a tricky situation to deal with.

‘The way Wimbledon conducted themselves was excellent and they kept us abreast of what was going on.’
