Worthing’s players have had just a seven-week break since their National 2 play-off win at Stourbridge on May 11 and they will now be training twice a week to build up for the new campaign.

Raiders team manager David Hinchliffe said: “We’re back training on Tuesdays and Thursdays now and a lot of the lads have said they’ll be doing an extra session on Saturdays as well.

“We’ve got one or two new players coming along and a couple have said they’re going to sign but I don’t like to say they have joined until they’ve put pen to paper.

“We’ve got everyone coming back from last season’s squad, apart from a couple of 2nd XI players, Ben Henderson and Frank Bagnall, who are going to university.”

Raiders’ injured centre Matt Farnes will be helping Hinchliffe out at the start of the season to stay involved with the first team and Hinchliffe said: “We’re not sure when Matt will be back from his injury yet, so he’s going to come on the support side and work with me.

“He’ll give me a hand and help me organise things and it will keep him involved with the first team until he’s back in the squad.”

Worthing host their 7s event on Saturday from 10am.
