Rangers escapelightly but it’s stillan encouragingseason for them

It was third time lucky for YM and you could say also for Rangers as they were fortunate to escape a much heavier defeat.

The hosts, after already being beaten twice by their visitors this season, scored inside the first 15 seconds and in the end had enough chances to have won by a country mile.

Rangers were competitive enough in the middle third of the pitch but failed to seriously test home keeper Simon Lockwood, while at the other end YM looked like scoring virtually every time they attack.

Somehow it was still only 1-0 at half time and Rangers enjoyed the lion’s share of possession at the start of the second half before YM scored with what was almost their first meaningful attack of the half 11 minutes in.

Martin Smith had punished Rangers as he lifted the ball nonchalantly over the head of Rob Gordon right at the start and then added his second after the break with a good shot on the turn.

In between time he could have had plenty more, along with skipper Ashley Dugdale.

Rangers had anough players missing to form another very useful team and injuries have made the end of the season particularly tough.

To finish with a semi exit and then four straight league defeats is certainly not representative of what has been a most encouraging season since Geoff Pitcher took over.
