Relief over Cody injury scare

Sidley United were relieved to learn that the injury to Paddy Cody isn’t as bad as first feared.

The full-back, pictured, went down in agony after appearing to twist his knee as he turned to chase an opponent during the first half of the 5-2 victory over Crowborough Athletic on Tuesday night.

Cody was stretchered off the field and was unable to put any weight on the leg as he left the ground. However, a visit to hospital on Wednesday morning revealed bruised ligaments and an estimated lay-off of three to four weeks.

Sidley manager John Lambert said: “It’s the best news we probably could’ve had. I was thinking he’s not going to be playing again this season, but we should have him back before Christmas or around Christmas.”

The 22-year-old’s injury opens the door for Mark Chandler, who, as expected, returned to Sidley in time to sit on the bench for the Crowborough clash having helped out previous club Bexhill United in their game against Loxwood on Saturday.

Sidley have risen to sixth in Sussex County Football League Division One having won five of their last seven matches in all competitions if you include the Hastings & District FA Senior Cup penalty shoot-out triumph over Westfield.
