The Rooks have been busy in the transfer market so far this summer.

Goalkeeper Lewis Carey, midfielders Freddie Parker and Bradley Pritchard, and forward Joe Taylor have all joined from Vines’, and manager Tony Russell’s, former club Cray Wanderers.

Lewes’ assistant boss was delighted to have acquired the foursome from his old club.

And Vines promised that more new players, not just from the Wands, were set to move to The Dripping Pan.

He said: “We’ve announced those boys already, but there’s definitely others that will follow.

“There’s a flavour to it. You’ve seen a lot of the boys that have played for us previously at Cray have followed us.

“There will definitely be boys outside of that group joining because we want to improve, but they’re really good players.

“Lew is an excellent keeper and, in my opinion, the best in the league. Bradley is a marvellous man and a wonderful player.

“Then you’ve got Freddie, who I think has got all the potential to kick on.

“And there is no question that Joe’s been one of the best players in the league over the last three or four season.

“A lot of people were in for him and we have been very fortunate to capture him.

“There’s a good spine in there already.”

Vines was full of praise for hotshot striker Taylor in particular.

Taylor was the Isthmian Premier Division’s top scorer in 2019-20, netting 26 goals before the campaign was abandoned.

The forward was also joint-top goalscorer in last season’s curtailed Premier Division with seven goals.

But, in worrying news for defenders across the division, Vines was of the opinion that the prolific striker has kicked on since then.

He added: “He trusts us and we play a style of football that brings him chances.

“He’s improved, and what people don’t realise is that he’s gotten better over the last three or four seasons.

“I think he can provide even more goals but his all-round game is excellent.”
