Sussex County Football League Division One leaders East Preston have issued a seven-day approach for Olly Lockyer.

Rye manager Marc Gall said: “Hopefully he will decide to stay. Obviously with Stores (Gall’s previous fellow joint manager Anthony Storey) going (to Crawley Down Gatwick), he’s got some big boots to fill.”

Hard-working striker Danny Woodley has returned to Rye, but is banned for the Boxing Day trip to Crowborough Athletic. Gall is also hoping to bring in busy midfielder Ricky Martin in time for the Crowborough game, for which central defender Nathan Russell is suspended.

Martin, who was a key figure for Sidley United last season, had signed Sussex County League forms for Eastbourne United AFC, but has been playing in the ADA East Sussex League for Peche Hill Select.

Under new captain Ade Olorunda, Rye will sign off for 2013 with a home game against Hailsham Town on Saturday). Rye are 14th in the table despite beating second-placed Littlehampton Town with nine men last time out.
