George Asomani has penned a contract with the American side and follows in the footsteps of other recent academy graduates from the Guestling school: Kane Crichlow (Watford), Archie Davies (Brighton and Crawley Town) and Teram Moffi, who recently signed for French First Division side FC Loreint in a deal worth £5.4 m.

Asomani is native from Accra, Ghana. Having previously played for Mirage Football Academy, he joined Buckswood for his academics and the school’s football programme in 2016.

He went on to complete a football scholarship at Monroe College and then North Carolina State University.

Asomani said ‘A big thank you to Mr Sutton, the owner of Buckswood School and to all of my teachers and coaches.

“Buckswood really helped me develop my football skills, but also my education too.

“Through that I was able to earn a scholarship to further my education and football in America after I graduated.”

Academic principal Michael Shaw said: “It has been a fantastic few years for the Football Academy here at Buckswood. Despite the recent challenges posed by Covid, we were able to win our second national cup this year and it seems like all the support and professional coaching our students have received in recent times is really starting to bear fruit.

“It is rewarding to see so many of our recent students go on to forge a career in the sport, numbers we are very proud of for a small school like ours.”

Buckswood is a day and international boarding school, for boys and girls aged 11-18.

The school run a very successful boys and girls football academy, headed by UEFA qualified coaches.
