SCFL title race: Haywards Heath Town boss keeps players' focus on themselves

Haywards Heath Town will have full focus on their own result on Saturday – then see what the SCFL Premier Division table looks like with one weekend to go.

Kev Green’s side kept up their pursuit of leaders Steyning Town with a 3-1 win at Seaford last Saturday – but Steyning’s own win at home to Eastbourne United means they remain three points in front of Heath.

This weekend it’s Heath v Newhaven and Steyning v Peacehaven – and Green says his players must make sure they keep winning to keep the pressure on. Only one team gets automatic promotion.

Mark Goldson’s double and a Lloyd Francis effort clinched the win at The Crouch and Green said: “It was a bit of a strange game.

“The pitch was really bad – just very dried out and cracked and a bit bobbly. And the wind made it really difficult.

“I thought the boys coped well. It was 1-1 at half-time though we should probably have been ahead at that point.

“In the second half we were with the wind and we were dominant.

“It was good to get the 3-1 win and the three points and we can now focus on Saturday.

“We’re looking forward to having another home game – we’re playing Newhaven, who are a good side, and it should be a decent game. And then we’ll see what happens elsewhere.”

After this week’s matches, there’s one more round to go on Saturday week – but before then, next Wednesday, Green’s team take on Worthing United in the RUR Cup final at Lancing.
