Seagulls’ weekend odds - Burnley

THE Seagulls broke their scoring duck in style at the weekend with a cracking 5-1 win, their biggest at the Amex, against a Barnsley side who again suggested it could be a long hard season for the Reds this season.

A 5-1 home win was 66/1 at BetVictor and Ashley Barnes, as flagged up last week, was 5/1 to grab the opener.

The hosts were well supported from a best price 4/5 earlier in the week to 4/6 and did look banker material.

Boss Gus Poyet had insisted in the build up to the game that he was short of a striker, but the bottom line was that the Seagulls had been threatening to give someone a hiding since the start of the campaign and as the manager suggested after the game it could and probably should have been eight or nine having been denied a couple of decent penalty shouts as well as a host of missed chances.

Wayne Bridge scored his first goal in five years against Barnsley and Poyet will be keen for the momentum to be maintained against a Burnley side who have lost two on the road since their opening-day 2-0 defeat of Bolton at Turf Moor.

The Championship looks wide open this season although Blackpool have made a terrific start and are 7s from 14s for the title after their impressive beginning to the campaign.

Albion are into 16s from 22s for the title which might be a slight overreaction given Barnsley are 11/8 for the drop (Peterborough 5/4 and Palace 7/4) but if they can get a result against the Clarets it will do their promotion chances no harm in a season which is likely to be full of twists and turns in a very competitive division.

Burnley, who scrambled into the next round of the Capital One Cup midweek on penalties against struggling Plymouth, are 11/8 favourites to take all three points at the weekend with Brighton 85/40 and the draw at 9/4.

After the goal fest at the Amex, Gus Poyet will be looking to break his duck on the road and we bet 8/13 there will be two or fewer goals in the game and 13/10 three or more.

Burnley striker Charlie Austin was subject to a gamble before a ball was kicked to be leading Championship goalscorer and is 11/2 to grab the opener at Turf Moor.
