Selsey seek consistency after another home upset

He had no complaints about the result as a well-drilled Three Bridges team left the High Street Ground with a 1-0 win that left Selsey 14th in the table and still a little too near the bottom three for comfort.

They were denied an early chance to put the loss behind them when their scheduled visit to Chichester City on Tuesday was rained off.

Now they head to second-from-bottom St Francis on Saturday - and to mid-table Redhill a week later - hoping to kick-start a brighter second half of the campaign.

Hinshelwood said: “The gulf between the two teams on Saturday was pretty evident. We can’t say we really deserved anything from the game.

“There was a lack of quality from us and it’s hard to put your finger on why that was. Maybe there was a bit of Christmas-new year lethargy involved, but we can’t hide behind that - it would have been the same for both sides.”

Hinshelwood said one of his main frustrations in recent weeks had been his inability to send out a settled team each week - something he hoped would improve in the coming weeks.

“We’ve lost players to injuries, work commitments all sorts of factors, but that happens at this level of football.

“If we can get oour strongest XI out, we can be more than a match for anyone - but lose even two or three key players and we seem to struggle.

“We should be close to full strength this week so we need to push on.”
