Selsey sunk by set-piece sloppiness

Leading scorer Graham Bush finished a flowing move on seven minutes to notch his 12th goal of the season. But two goals in as many minutes from the home side in the second half, scored by Jason Hollick and Kieron Pamment, put paid to Selsey’s hopes of making certain of their top-flight status.

Selsey boss Ian Martin called it a ‘very disappointing’ and ‘poor’ performance.

“We weren’t playing well but were still winning. In the second half we just didn’t play any football,” he said.

“I can’t complain people weren’t trying or switched on. We applied ourselves but didn’t show any quality.

“We scored a lovely goal. Why we only did it once in the whole game I don’t know.

“They were poor, we were poor on the day, but we’ve conceded another goal from a set-piece and their second was a scrappy affair.”

Fixture congestion may aid Selsey this week as their hosts on Saturday – Rye – are playing twice before they meet at The Salts.

Martin said: “Hopefully I’ve got a few players back as well, and they can’t keep putting their strongest team out for three game in six days, so they’re going to be tired and it could give us an advantage,” Martin said.
