Sidley defender interests Rye

McEniry has been a substitute in Sidley’s last two matches having started their previous six.

Sidley manager John Lambert said: “I don’t want Zack to go. If he gets his head right, there’s not a better centre-half at my club.

“He’s such a talented lad; he can do everything. He knows what he’s got to do to get in my team. He’s not fit and he needs to do extra training.”

Rye are second in Sussex County Football League Division One with 27 points from 13 games, while Sidley are 18th with 11 points from 11 matches.

There has already been a fair bit of player movement between the two clubs this season. Allan McMinigal, Kenny Pogue and Sam Willett have gone from Rye to Sidley, while Chris Gould and Josh Willis have moved in the opposite direction.

Rye manager Scott Price said: “From what I’ve seen of him (McEniry), he’s a good defender. I honestly haven’t spoken to him, but if he’s got any ambition he will come and that’s not being disrespectful to Sidley either. He’s going to play in a good side.”

Lambert added that McMinigal has been “acting up” and the onus is on the tricky midfielder to contact him if he wants to remain involved, while 38-year-old Micky O’Callaghan has returned to Rye having been playing local football.

Sidley’s search for a goalkeeper is ongoing after missing out on former Rye stopper Callum Christie to East Grinstead Town. Matt Dann is returning from university in Chichester for the weekend games, but midweek matches are a problem.
